New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today accused the BJP of scripting its rebel legislator Vinod Kumar Binny's public accusations against the party. Mr Binny has accused his AAP of reneging on its promises to people after coming to power, and described party chief Arvind Kejriwal as a 'dictator.'
"Binny spoke as if he was reading out notes of the BJP. Whatever he read was scripted by the BJP, " said AAP leader Yogendra Yadav shortly after Mr Binny's press conference.
"There is no place for indiscipline in the party. We are left with no option but to take disciplinary action."
Mr Binny, a former Congressman, had threatened since yesterday to "expose the party". He has found fault with Mr Kejriwal's implementation of his promises on water and electricity; he has slammed the Delhi government for refusing to comment on the gang-rape of a Danish national in Delhi on Tuesday, and has accused the Chief Minister and his cabinet of going back on their word that they would not use government perks like cars and big houses.
He also criticised the party's functioning. "Arvind Kejriwal is a dictator. The party works on the principle that his word must prevail," he alleged. He listed demands aimed, he said, at making his party's government accountable to the people. If these were not met, he would begin a hunger strike on January 27, at the capital's Jantar Mantar, the site of many such demonstrations by Mr Kejriwal and co.('Kejriwal is a dictator': rebel Binny's 5 big complaints against AAP).
AAP said Mr Binny's charges were almost identical to those raised by BJP's chief ministerial candidate-turned-Leader of Opposition Harsh Vardhan in the Delhi assembly.
Mr Kejriwal had alleged that Mr Binny was sulking after being denied a ticket to contest the national election, due by May.
This was vehemently denied by Mr Binny, who called his party chief a liar. "He who has lied should resign from his position, be it Arvind Kejriwal or I. There is a difference between what AAP says and does." he said.
