At least 21 dead as boat capsizes near Port Blair

Port Blair:  A boat with around 45 people on board capsized near Port Blair this afternoon, killing at least 21.

According to initial reports, the boat, Aqua Marine, was carrying mainly tourists including a large group of around 30 people from Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu. (Helpline numbers: 1070 and 03192-240127)
AK Singh, Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. told NDTV that  13 people have been rescued so far.

The incident happened at around 4 pm and rescue operations are currently being conducted.

Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar island has ordered a magisterial probe and Rs. 1 lakh compensation to the families of the dead.
